Work Experience at Gildeas Solicitors Blog Post

On Monday the 25th and Wednesday 27th of July I was given the opportunity to undergo work experience at Gildeas Solicitors. Although having basic background knowledge of different aspects of the legal profession, I was inexperienced in the day-to-day running of a law firm. I’m currently awaiting my Higher results and will be going into Sixth Year after summer and will soon be applying for Law courses at university.

On my first day, I was introduced to all the different departments that make sure Gildeas runs smoothly. I was able to shadow different Solicitors and Claim Handlers and given insight into the type of personal injury cases they work on. Throughout the day I was shown what case notes a file may have and then was fortunate enough to sit in and observe an online meeting between a client and solicitor. I was also allowed to engage with client calls and sit in on the Reception team.

My second day began with an introduction into the Marketing aspects of the firm and then spent time with the First Response Unit team learning about the initial process of dealing with clients who have been involved in accidents and require personal injury support and advice. I also got an overview of the firms’ anti money laundering procedures.

I feel very grateful to have been given this insight into the legal profession and confident in my new found knowledge surrounding what being a solicitor may entail and all the different teams essential to the running of a law firm.
