How is it being a Paralegal at Gildeas? We asked Deonne
By Deonne
- Could you please give a brief introduction of yourself?
My name is Deonne, I have a Paralegal qualification and Honours Law Degree from Stirling University and found my way to Gildeas back in 2015. My passions in life are dogs, line dancing and every show on ‘Bravo’. I also enjoy seeing different parts of the world every now and again.
- How much time have you spent working at Gildeas, and what positions did you hold?
I started Gildeas in 2015. Originally I interviewed for a position in our First Response Unit but due to the knowledge I gained throughout my Degree, the Directors thought they would try me in a claims handling role. After 2 years of training under a Solicitor, I could refer to myself professionally as a Paralegal. Since then I have been an assistant team leader and currently run a team alongside one of our Directors.
- Could you please give a summary of your role and responsibilities as a Paralegal?
The nature of my current role involves dealing with a wide variety of responsibilities and duties. As well as having a case load of my own, I also deal with the daily management of my team, which can be anything from answering queries to completing reports. The extent of my responsibilities ensures that each day brings something new and exciting!
- How would you describe the work atmosphere at Gildeas?
The atmosphere at Gildeas is great. We are one big team. Although there are different departments and offices, and different ranges of experience and knowledge, we all help one another to reach the end goal which is to provide the best service to clients. Every single person is approachable and that is vital for any workplace.
- How has your journey as a Paralegal been thus far?
The journey has been great so far, not without its challenges but the knowledge and experience I have gained from working at Gildeas has been invaluable. They often say that every day is a learning opportunity, it is even more true in the legal field.
- In your opinion, what is the most rewarding aspect of being an employee at Gildeas?
Although it is a cliché, the most rewarding aspect is client satisfaction. I recently received flowers from really lovely trusting clients. Although this is never expected, as at the end of the day we are just doing our job, it is amazing to pick someone up at their lowest and give them a positive experience that can turn things around for them. Being in a trusted position with great colleagues and continuing to learn from them every day makes this much easier!
